Membership
SMC is a consortium of stakeholders from Area Drug and Therapeutic Committees (ADTCs) and representation is derived from ADTCs across NHSScotland.
Potential new candidates are sourced from ADTCs and from the nominations received the SMC Executive team identifies potential replacements for those leaving the committee. New members are formally invited to join SMC by the Chief Medical Officer. The recruitment of new members to SMC is for a period of three years.
SMC also has two representatives from the Association of British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) on the consortium. Recruitment of these members is facilitated through ABPI who advertise through ABPI channels and review and short-list all nominations before making a formal appointment.
Members of the New Drugs Committee, which is a sub committee of SMC, are also elected from nominations received from ADTCs.
Recruitment of public partners is via advertising through the SMC website and other relevant bodies, i.e NHS Quality Improvement Scotland, Scottish Health Council, Voluntary Health Scotland and Directors of Public Involvement within Health Boards. A shortlist is drawn up from applications received and an appointment made through an interview process.
