Community Acquired Pneumonia (SNAP-CAP) Quality Improvement Project - Workstream

The Community Acquired Pneumonia (SNAP-CAP) Quality Improvement Project is managed by the Scottish Antimicrobial Prescribing Group (SAPG)

The project was formerly hosted by the Scottish Royal Colleges of Physicians as part of the Health Foundation’s Engaging with Quality Initiative which was a 4 year quality improvement programme that ended in June 2008.

Improving the quality of care for CAP patients

SNAP-CAP aims to:

• increase the survival rate of patients diagnosed with CAP
• equalise mortality rates between weekday and weekend admissions
• reduce related illness/infection
• increase equality of service from centre to centre across Scotland
• ensure timely and appropriate treatment (as defined by BTS guidelines)
• reduce number of days in hospital by CAP patients
• improve appropriateness of antibiotic prescription
